The Family Court Clinic (FCC) is a University of Wisconsin Law School program. Law students (supervised by a clinical law professor) provide free assistance to unrepresented people who have simple family law matters in Wisconsin. The following information describes the limited assistance which the FCC provides to those who meet with them:

  • Provide the information and forms you need to complete your case;
  • Review the forms for accuracy and completeness;
  • Help you organize your information;
  • Help you understand court rules and procedures, and;
  • Provide the information you need to make it through every step of your case.

Appointments are via zoom or phone and are scheduled through the use of the FCC contact form or by phone.

How to Get Service

You may contact the FCC at any time at 608-262-2301. The FCC is closed in May and from early Dec. to mid Jan. of each year. Please leave your name, phone number, the legal issue you are facing and let the FCC know if it is safe for them to leave a message. 

If you prefer that the FCC reach out to you instead, you may do so by filling out their Intake Request Form, which you can get to by pressing the "Apply Now" button below.

Other Eligibility

The FCC is available to low-income individuals who are not represented by an attorney. FCC students are only able to assist with cases that are filed in Wisconsin. Assistance can be provided to those who reside outside of Wisconsin if they are involved with a Wisconsin family court action.
